The need: Transform the historic brick Muskegon Boilerworks building into affordable, modern loft-style apartments especially designed for the unique needs and desires of artists.

The solution: An apartment building known as Artworks, which features 26 two-bedroom lofts, each with its own personal display and performance area. The units are designed to function as a warm, comfortable living space, as well as an art studio that fosters creativity. Artworks of Muskegon was honored as a finalist for the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association's 2006 J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation and received the 2007 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation.
