The need: Farmington Hills has long been a prosperous, thriving community, but for a number of reasons, it has begun to show signs of decline. The city needed a plan that would address the problems of the past, while ensuring continued success in a difficult economic climate.

The solution: A strategic, action-oriented sustainability plan that enabled city officials to identify and address their community's problems, and begin making positive changes for the future.

Hooker DeJong conducted an in-depth market research study that included public forums and one-on-one interviews with business leaders and city staff. This was followed by an extensive financial and operational audit to evaluate land use planning, code review, and ordinances. Specific recommendations included changes in land use planning rules, and a new master planning strategy with quality design and environmental sustainability as the cornerstone.
